Hey crowd!
Just got back from the Big Apple. Why do they call it that? If anyone knows, please leave me a comment.
It was amazing. Truly amazing. Not the city itself, but what you can do in it. It's like ten cities in one. Whatever you want, whenever you want. It's really that simple. And people are so nice and polite!
What I liked the most was the fact that I felt so at ease, so calm and excited at the same time. It agrees with me, it's there for me to enjoy. For the first time in quite some time I didn't feel stressed and anxious and under-stimulated.
During the days I walked around alone mainly, discovering different areas, mini-cities if you want. I stayed close to Chinatown but didn't like it too much. That place really smells! Got my I Love NY tisha for $3, bargain!
Got lost in both Macy's and Century 21, ate and ate at really good places.
My favourite meal has got to be that small burrito place in Alphabet City though, the first time I had an authentic burrito with brown rice, chicken and whole wheat bread.
Tasty and semi-healthy, wow! I downed it with four Mojitos, they were also very yummy.
What else can I say...? Didn't get the romance of a lifetime but I did enjoy every minute. It really is a city of possibilities and I am already looking forward to go back.
It's too good a city not to try it, really.
These are my "golden years", I need to do something rewarding, something challenging.
So, keep a lookout for a job for me, otherwise I also have a phone interview with H&M this week, buying assistant.
Keep your fingers crossed for me, all I want is to move on.
Over the Arctic Ocean. So beautiful. Disappointingly I didn't see any penguins nor polar bears.
In the cab from JFK I saw some spectacular graffitti but was too slow with my camera.
This one was by the traffic lights in Long Island City.
On Grand and Orchard I think. It's actually a graffitti ad for Wii. Cool.
They had many of those actually. Street art going commercial!
Jenny B Shoes. It made my eyes moist. Even more so when the shoes were fugly.
A Dunkin' Donuts donut with chocolate frosting and sprinkles.
Bruce said; it's crap.
I said; shush, it doesn't matter. I've been waiting my whole life.
Sweet address.
Myself in front of Macy's. Good shoe department in there!
Up in Queens they have a graffitti yard, like a museum almost.
It was supercool and the administrator was also a real cool guy.
He told us they'd done a America's Next Top Model shoot there the day before.
Graffitti going HBO I guess. Not so cool?
More graffitti.
Charlie being up close and personal with Felix da Cat.
At the Bowery Ballroom, for a gig. Saw Phosphorescent and Nina Nastacia.
Pure morning, day's dawning..
Somewhere over Zurich on my way home.

Hey you!
"the big apple" was originally slang in African-American circles, and was used as such in the 1920s. New York was the place were everybody wanted to be, what everyone was striving to get at, like a big apple. Possibly the first to use it was stable boys moving to New York for the many racetracks in the city, and then sports journalist covering the racetracks begun using it. Jazz musicians also talked of gigs in Manhattan as being "the big apple". Los Angeles was also called "the big apple" occasionally, but only in New York did it stick.
Nice photos!
To Fredrik:
I saw this episode of Miami Ink and that ugly sidekick guy of 50 Cent had his whole back covered with NYC landmarks and above it it said; "The Bad Apple" as in Queens and the Bronx I guess. Another take on the Apple story!
